Join Fast Friends as a Rescue Dog Care Specialist and make a difference in the lives of dogs waiting for their forever homes! Fast Friends has been finding homes for retired racing Greyhounds and other sighthounds for over 30 years, and the Rescue Dog Caregivers are key to the mission of giving these dogs the skills they need to be successful once they are adopted.
You will also be providing for the dogs day-to-day needs--feeding, walks, playtime, enrichment and yes, cleaning up kennels and yards.
Required Skills Deep commitment to responsible pet ownership and humane treatment of all animals.
Dedication to providing positive experiences for companion animals.
Excellent communication skills.
Enjoy being physically active, with some time outdoors each day.
Team orientation.
Flexibility (Remember, you are working with live animals!) Sense of fun! Past experience with dogs is a plus, but we have a comprehensive, hands-on training program for staff to positively and effectively interact with the dogs in our care.
What your day looks like You will be one of a small team of hands-on caregivers, making sure the dogs available for adoption are safe at all times and are getting as much enrichment as possible through walks, playtime, and other structured activities.
The adoptable dogs are mainly sighthounds--Greyhounds, Galgos, and Podengos--and most are over 50 pounds.
They have a range of ages and temperaments and have come to Fast Friends from a variety of situations, not all of them positive.
Expectations ALWAYS monitor the dogs' safety and health at all times, above all else.
Interact appropriately with the dogs, always showing them respect and compassion.
Walk dogs.
Supervise play time and provide one-on-one enrichment.
Prepare, deliver, and clean up after meals.
Clean kennels and bring dogs to the relief yards.
Do laundry and clean common areas.
Coordinate with other team members to ensure each dog is getting the same high level of care.
Perform other tasks required to keep the dogs happy and the kennel running smoothly.
About Fast Friends Fast Friends began finding homes for retired racing Greyhounds from a local track in 1992.
Retired racers are the heart and soul of Fast Friends, and we have continued to welcome Greyhounds from Florida, Alabama, West Virginia, Kansas, and, most recently, Ireland and the United Kingdom.
In 2017 our mission expanded to all sighthounds in need around the world and we began to work with international rescue partners to help save abandoned hunting dogs in Spain and Portugal, meat trade dogs in China, and street dogs in the Middle East.
